Located in the charming village of Margarites, in the Mylopotamos region of Rethymno, this beautifully restored traditional stone house combines authentic Cretan architecture, traditional materials, generous living spaces, and a flexible layout. Renovated in 2014, the property offers approximately 180 sqm of interior living space across two levels, plus a 35 sqm covered, tiled rooftop terrace with views over the village, and includes 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. A distinctive feature of this property is that it originally consisted of two separate traditional stone houses, which have since been internally connected to form one spacious residence. The original structure, dating back to the late 19th century, has been carefully renovated to preserve its traditional architecture and authentic character while providing comfortable and versatile living spaces. Wooden and tiled floors, an elegant wooden internal staircase and traditionally designed wooden window and door frames complement the stone architecture and enhance the house’s timeless aesthetic. Although the two houses currently function as one residence, the existing configuration allows for a degree of separation between living areas, making it particularly suitable for hosting extended family, friends or guests who value their independence. Subject to the necessary building works and technical assessment, the property could also potentially be divided back into two independent residences, offering additional flexibility for future use. The house features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, three living rooms, a fireplace, two dining areas, two entrance halls and a storage room. Outdoor spaces include an upper-floor veranda overlooking Mount Psiloritis and a 35 sqm covered, tiled rooftop terrace offering charming views across the village. With three separate main entrances facing north, south and west, and an overall north–south orientation, the property offers a distinctive layout and convenient access from different sides. The generous living areas can accommodate up to seven additional guests, making the house particularly suitable for two families with children or for those seeking a spacious traditional home with ample room for entertaining and welcoming visitors. Ideally situated in a central part of Crete, the property is approximately 25 km from Rethymno and 45 km from Heraklion, while the seaside village of Panormos is just a 10-minute drive away and Bali is approximately 20 minutes away. This convenient location offers easy access to beautiful beaches, coastal resorts and some of the island’s most significant cultural landmarks. Margarites is one of Crete’s most distinctive traditional villages, renowned for its pottery-making heritage dating back to Minoan times. Its picturesque stone-paved lanes, traditional stone houses, and numerous Venetian-era churches reflect the island’s rich Byzantine and Venetian history. The village lies along the well-known cultural and tourist route of the Rethymno region, connecting important historical destinations such as Arkadi Monastery and Ancient Eleutherna, as well as the coastal village of Panormos.
