Description :
This wonderful and solidly built stone villa of approx. 100 m² stands on a 6,000 m² plot, which offers enough space for a large pool. It literally "perches" above the city of Ierapetra with a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the Libyan Sea. A wonderful living, dining and kitchen area awaits you behind the entrance door. It is open-plan and offers a lot of space. The dining room is embedded in a bay window, which is flooded with light through windows secured with bars. The high-quality, large, U-shaped fitted kitchen with a large fridge-freezer combination and much more offers plenty of space for everything you need. An open fireplace, for the colder winter months, in the cozy living room with wooden beamed ceilings creates a homely atmosphere. The thick stone walls keep the house pleasantly cool even in the hot summer months. From the spacious living area you can access the two bedrooms and the large bathroom in the middle via a hallway. There is a winter garden on the area to the right of the property, which can be turned into an oasis of peace, wellness area or barbecue area with little effort. A pizza/bread oven and a brick barbecue grill are already available. The villa is detached in a very quiet location. The property still offers a lot of potential given its size. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have and look forward to hearing from you.

Ierapetra - The southeasternmost city of Crete, as well as the southernmost city in Europe, Ierapetra is located at the narrowest point of Crete. The distance from Ierapetra to the north coast is only about 18 km. The distance to the capital Heraklion on the north coast is approx. 100 km. It is not uncommon for the mountains around Ierapetra to be shrouded in a gray veil due to the Scirocco (hot desert wind). The coastal region around Ierapetra is very dry and bare, but just a few kilometers inland you will be even more surprised when the lush vegetation of "Males" dominates the landscape. Males is a wooded area and is located approximately 15 km inland from Ierapetra. The city of Ierapetra and the surrounding area has a total of around 27,000 inhabitants who live mainly from agriculture. Ierapetra belongs to the prefecture of Lassithi. The greenhouses, which are right near the coast, do not create a beautiful landscape for the tourist. But they are very important for the population living there. The fruit and vegetables grown in Ierapetra not only supply Crete, but also parts of Europe in winter. The main vegetables grown are cucumbers and tomatoes, which we find on our supermarket shelves even in winter. In ancient times, Ierapetra was already a trading city that exchanged a lot with North Africa. The landmark of Ierapetra is the 17th century Venetian castle, which is located on the west side of the harbor. Ierapetra has a waterfront promenade (approx. 800 meters long), which is rare for Crete, with many taverns and cafes. From here boats go to the offshore island “Chrissi Island”. The highest peak in the hinterland of Ierapetra is the mountain "Spathi" at 2148 meters. The region around Ierapetra is the warmest region in Europe. It is not uncommon for temperatures to climb above 40 degrees in summer. The proximity to the African continent is not far. The oriental influences are visible through the remains of the Ottoman Empire, such as the mosque, the minaret and the fountain house in the city center. Napoleon started his journey to Egypt from Ierapetra. All rulers of Crete recognized the strategic importance of Ierapetra. The ancient Greeks called Ierapetra, "Hierapytna" in ancient Greek, which meant gateway to Africa. For Romans, Arabs and Venetians, Ierapetra remained the crossroads between continents. Cultural highlights in Ierapetra and the surrounding area: The Archaeological Museum of the City of Ierapetra, the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos. The "Lato" excavations from the 8th century BC BC, built by the Dorians. Lato is also on the north coast near Agios Nikolaos. Furthermore, the Minoan excavation at Kato Zakros in the east of the island. Hikes in the area: At the foot of the "Ditki Mountains" the bee kingdom "Skafidia". You drive via Males to the village of Selakano and park there. From the Kafenion follow the signs “Skafidia” & “Metachori”. You are now on a footpath with red markings. This hike is a return hike, you go back the way you went. The hike takes about 4 ½ hours and is 9 km long. The marking: E4 signs (European hiking trail), red dots & cairns. It is a moderately difficult hike that leads through a wooded area. On this tour you should have something against bee stings because it is also a beekeeper's paradise. The highlight of this hike is the viewpoint with great panoramic views.
