Sivas is a traditional, quiet Cretan village with around 500 inhabitants, located in the south of Crete on the western slope of the Asterousia Mountains. It belongs to the municipality of Festos in the regional district of Heraklion (Heraklion).
Location and surroundings
Sivas is located about 62 km south of Heraklion, close to the popular towns of Pitsidia, Matala and Kalamaki.
The village lies at an altitude of around 110 meters and is embedded in a landscape of olive groves and vineyards, with good access to beaches such as Komos and Pitsidia.
Well-developed roads run through the village, making it easily accessible from Heraklion, Moires or Pitsidia.

The village has a lively local life with taverns, small cafes, shops and a butcher shop for local products.
The pottery of Vassilis is very well known, where you can also take pottery courses.
The village square with old Benjamini trees is the center of social life, with a playground and event options, e.g. B. the Cretan village festival at the end of August.

Sivas is an ideal starting point for hikes to the Asterousia Mountains, Agia Deka/Gortys, the Agio Farango and Marzalos gorges and the beaches of Komos, Pitsidia and Matala.
The village beach can be reached in around 50 minutes via a fragrant path through olive and lemon groves; the beach itself has fine and coarse grains and is rarely visited.
The area is run by the Greek Ministry of Culture as a protected cultural residential area, which ensures the preservation of the traditional village image.
