Vendée and Loire-Atlantique, a history of sailing

From the Côte Sauvage to the Côte de Lumière, the beaches and the ports of the Pays de la Loire attract the seaside tourism and are home to many sailing events.

While the famous Vendée Globe is taking place every four years in Sables-D'Olonne, in many other ports, the appointments multiply and bring honor to sailing. The first big event of the summer is the Course Croisière des Ports Vendéens. In early July from the port of Bourgenay up to that of Herbaudière in the island of Noirmoutier, taking a tour around the island of Yeu, hundreds of crews coming from all across the Atlantic Coast attend the daily races.

Noirmoutier does not disprove this nautical spirit: there, summer rhymes with sailing. Organized by the Regatta Society of the Island of Noirmoutier, a first set of races: the Noirmoutier Classic, inaugurates the Sailing Week. In August, many sailing ships including classes Requin, Dragon, but also Tradition and Tofinou confront each other in the Bays of Bourgneuf and Noirmoutier. Then follow the Regattas of the Bois de la Chaise, always in August. Long awaited by fans of old boats, the Voiles de Tradition is the other event that gathers every years in Pornic, about 80 boats of exception in August.

Vendée and Loire-Atlantique provide events to make sport lovers happy all the year, but summer is particularly rich in emotions.
